Chronic pain & pain scales
For those who suffer from chronic pain the traditional pain scales used in Emergency are not helpful. (The usual scale is one that goes from 0 = no pain to 10 = The worst you can imagine.)
When you live at a level that most people would find exceptionally hard to tolerate (6/7) a tiny movement on the scale can mean a huge difference for chronic pain sufferers. Whereas for people who live without pain the scale is appropriate and big changes are reflected in big moves on the scale,
This study will look at existing pain scales with a specific interest in those used with chronic pain sufferers. It will either identify or develop a more appropriate scale and then work to translate this into clinical practice.
